Abstract
Vinylon, PVA fiber, has been produced in commercial scale for more than 40 years. In its long history, due to its excellent mechanical properties, chemical stability, hydrophilic nature and unique water soluble characteristic, it has been widely used in various industrial fields including paper, FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastics) and FRC (Fiber Reinforced Cement and Concrete). In the recent rising demand for higher performance vinylon, Kuraray has developed a new type vinylon binder fiber for wet laid system, binder for glass fiber and binder fiber for dry laid non-woven fabric. In addition to various binder fibers, the process has also been developed to improve the wet strength of paper itself. As for subject fiber, he has developed vinylon fibers with various unique characteristics, for instance, high shrinkage fiber, super fine fiber with high tenacity, fibers with various cross-section, electro-conductive vinylon and flame-retardant fiber.
