Abstract
About 2000 Romanian wood panel tempera paintings from the 15th to the 18th century were examined in order to study the causes of their deterioration. These may be divided in two categories: those of natural origin including temperature, humidity, wood and painting technologies used by the artists, and those of human origin including over-cleaning and inappropriate handling. 20 photographs bibliography. -- ICCROM
