Abstract
A vaulted Roman fresco was excavated in Enns, Austria. The mortar was consolidated with a water-soluble potassium silicate. The paint layer was treated with Paraloid. For mounting, the front side was covered with gauze and paper and then supported by polyurethane foam. The mortar was then reduced to a thickness of 1 cm. On the reverse side three layers of different qualities of polyurethane foam were applied, sunounding the metal splints.
