Abstract
The paint standard established performance and composition standards for artists' grade oil paints. The 1942 standard (with a 1962 revision) has become obsolete with the development of new binders and organic pigments. Lightfastness and fading tests need to be revised in accordance with current available technology. The tinting strength standard, in particular, has posed problems. The proposed labeling will identify pigment or pigments according to the Color Index Name and Color Index Number; it is also recommended that the vehicle be identifled, and a lightfastness rating be included. There is no agreement yet on toxicity cautions. See 17-539. -- AATA
