The examination and treatment of Justus Susterman's Portrait of Countess Dudley of Warwick are presented. Of particular interest was the flnding of an early inscription documenting the sitter and artist; this was found on the back of the original canvas. A new lining of woven fiberglass was applied; its transparency allowed the inscription to be seen after treatment. -- AATA
