Variables influencing dry film thickness include the absorptivity of the substrate, its surface structure, application method, flow properties, viscosity, hiding power and solids content. Film thickness, on the other hand, has an effect on the subsequent behavior of a paint in regard to aging, water permeability, and pore formation. Instrumental methods of film thickness measurement on various substrates are indicated. -- AATA
