Although it was not unusual for the American painter Ralph A. Blakelock to make notes on the pencil sketches he subsequently overpainted in watercolors, Landscape. July 1, 1876 (The Brooklyn Museum) is more completely annotated than most. Details of the color and other notations are provided by Blaugrund who discovered them. -- AATA
