Abstract
The first section explains how British Standards are used within the textile industry and how they benefit customers. Section two outlines a selection of both physical and chemical methods of tests for fibers, yarns and fabrics, including a student project on the making and use of Grey Scales. Sections three and four deal with labelling and legislation, and include material on textile care and size labels, and on legislation which invokes British Standards with an extended section on flammability testing. The booklet mainly deals with textiles and clothing; shoes are considered from the point of view of labelling; and carpets, curtains and upholstery are dealt with in respect to flammability. Material to make five scparate Grey Scales can be bought separately as a booklet. -- AATA
