Methods used for evaluating the performance of clear finishes are reviewed. The principles required to develop more reliable accelerated tests are outlined. A description is given of the application of the use of vasic property measurements, absorption, permeability, tensile strength, and composition of the coating are discussed. An equation is presented for predicting durability from basic properties and compared with a method for rating durability by exterior exposure tests. -- AATA
