The rate of radiation-induced polymerization of methyl methacrylate was higher in hardwoods than in softwoods. It was lower in mixtures with sawdust and lowest with comminuted bark of pine or spruce. With increasing initial moisture content of the wood, increases were observed in the polymerization rate and grafting efficiency, combined with decreases in the molecular weight of extracted homopolymers. -- AATA
