Abstract
Studies were made on samples of clear Norway spruce, silver fir, Scots pine sapwood, and beech that were pressure-treated with a water-repellent organic solvent-type alkyd resin or either of 2 inorganic salts, viz. Cu-Cr-B or Cu-Cr-F. Samples were preconditioned at 65% relative humidity and then taken to 35% or 95% relative humidity. Equilibrium moisture content of samples changed only slightly with preservative treatment. Shrinkage and swelling coefficient did not show definite tendencies, and effects of treatment were minor and independent of wood species. In spruce and pine, all treatments appeared to increase shrinkage and swelling anisotropy significantly. -- AATA
