The need for conservation training in Latin America (and the inadequacies of the current system) was addressed in a November 1985 workshop on the Evaluation of Training Courses on Conservation of Moveable Cultural Property. The program of the conference, The teaching of conservation and preservation management for librarians, archivists, and information scientists included papers on the following topics: content of education and training programs, highlighting the special requirements for librarian, archivist, and documentalist; the role of national libraries in providing conservation education for librarians; education and training needs for Third World countries; qualifications of teachers of conservation courses; making conservation education a high priority. A plan of action was formulated and seven recommendations were to be passed on to the International Federal of Library Associations and Institutions, International Federation for Documentation, the International Council on Archives, and Unesco. -- AATA
