In 1976, the 3M Company developed a process for coating film as protection during heavy use. In an accelerated aging test it neither yellowed nor came off. However, it can only be used on silver processed microfilm (not on diazo or vesicular film). An assessment of the material is given, but a long-term evaluation is yet to be undertaken. The process is irreversible.
