Abstract
A severe outbreak of fungus growth in the Virginia State Library began in July of 1978 and continued over subsequent years even though relative humidity was kept below 58 percent after the initial outbreak. Cultures were taken and 19 species of fungus were identified. More should have been identified, but some cultures taken from active growths on the books would not grow under laboratory conditions. The research and findings of this study challenge traditional beliefs about mold control. -- AATA
