In 1982, a special conservation laboratory was set up at the shipwreck site. Beginning in 1976, the procedure had been to treat the excavated ceramics initially on-site and then have more extensive work done at the conservation laboratory of the National Museum in Seoul. Metal utensils, however, after being treated at the site, continued to be taken to the Conservation Laboratory of the Cultural Properties Preservation Bureau in Seoul for full conservation treatment. The types of excavated objects are identified. Attempts are now being made to retrieve the hull to reconstruct the ship. This ship-find changes western understanding of nautical technology of the Orient, its features coinciding with the Chu'anchou ship, which was discovered in 1974.
