An ancient flat woven motif is still employed by a distinctive tribal group in the Phrygian Highlands of Anatolia, whose members assert that they are descendants of the oldest race in the territory, predating the Turkoman tribes who migrated westward into the area from the 11th century onwards. The design variants of the <i>parmakli</i> kilims are listed. By investigating those villages where <i>parmakli</i> are still used or manufactured, a geographical source area in the Phrygian Highlands was identified for this type of weaving. -- AATA
