Abstract
Kum Kapi rugs, woven in silk with metal thread brocading, were made in Istanbul during the 19th and early 20th centuries. They have derived from the earlier Top Kapi and Salting rugs, which had evolved from the classical 16th-century rugs of Safavid Persia. Careful examination of the techniques used in making a carpet makes it possible to identify the source. -- AATA
