Abstract
The <i>Saint Géran</i>, a 600-ton ship of the Compagnie Française des Indes, sank off the coast of Mauritius in 1744. In 1979, through the development of undersea archaeology techniques, a French expedition explored the site of the wreck. The repository of the collection built up during this expedition posed problems for the Mauritius Institute. Despite meager technical and financial resources, the institute was able to carry out its mission of protection, conservation, and display. -- AATA
