Abstract
Repair work during the Edo period is briefly described; and the modern repair policy is explained: namely, the preservation of the present condition without adding lost parts, and respectful examination of the original materials. Various kinds of damage found on the sculptures and their causes, such as insects and fungi, etc., are discussed. Several examples of restoration are given. -- AATA
