After a brief historical review of the archaeological investigations of the tumulus culture on the island of Hvar through 1974, the author systematizes the available archaeological data on the tumuli. Twenty-one sites are listed and briefly described. All Hvar tumuli are made of stone; they are round or elongated in shape with only one grave in the center or in the eastern part of the tumulus. Only two sites with graves were found. The tumuli vary in size but the Bronze Age tumuli are generally larger than the Iron Age ones. -- AATA
