Report on the x-ray study carried out at the national art gallery in sofia (bulgaria) on van dyck's portrait of jean de montfort, following a 1961 study of the painting that was based solely on stylistic analysis. The author believes the x-rays prove this work is not a copy but an authentic van dyck, especially when compared to an undisputed portrait in the hermitage, leningrad. Photographs, references.
