Abstract
Drop absorbency, vertical wicking, and solution retention tests were used to characterize the interactions of both 100% cotton and 100% polyester (Dacron® polyester type 54) with increasing concentrations of a nonionic surfactant solution (Tergitol NP-10, a nonylphenol ethoxylate). The Dacron® fabric was also treated with a nonionic polymeric hydrophile finish and then tested. This NPH treated polyester fabric and the cotton fabric did not show increased wicking with the addition of surfactant to the water. Differences in the ratio of solution retention valve and the surfactant concentration were found for cotton and polyester. -- AATA
