Abstract
Characteristics of surian (Cedrela (Toona) spp.) are reviewed with special reference to Peninsular Malaysia where two species occur (T. serrata and T. sureni), mainly in hill forests; the standard Malaysian name, limpaga, comes from Sabah. The timber is light (air-dry density 270-530 kg/m3), non-durable (less so in T. serrata) and highly decorative, with aromatic heartwood. Seasoning and strength properties are given for T. sureni. -- AATA
