Developments in treating shipwreck material and finds in Poland are reviewed. A study of long-term alteration in treated wood samples which are stored without special climate controls is reported. Various considerations in handling objects directly out of bath are discussed as well as problems with choice of polyethylene glycol solution and humidity variations. The reversibility of polyethylene glycol treatment is questioned, and several experiences with this aspect of its use are presented. Sucrose is considered as an alternative treatment particularly when there are economic constraints which would warrant its use; however, the recommendation for this treatment is further controlled research. The problem of neutralizing iron salts has not yet been solved. -- AATA
