Abstract
Each of the participants presents his or her perspectives on freeze-drying, discussing cryoprotection and whether polyethylene glycol functions as a cryoprotector. Conservation as minimal intervention, and storage as part of conservation practice are discussed. The final topics discussed concern the design of freeze-dryers, how the design affects the rate of drying, and how the design affects the end result.
