Abstract
In the 1929 dredging of l'anse Gerbal, an ancient shipwreck was sighted; in 1963, an archaeological excavation of the vessel, a cargo dating to the time of Constantine, was undertaken. Ten years later an expansion of the dock was planned; at this time a preliminary investigation was done to determine the size of the ship and it was agreed that the vessel should be raised. The procedures for raising the ship are described. Difficulties encountered in the preservation of the craft are discussed; it is on display at the Musée de la Mer.
