Abstract
A high-frequency crystal microbalance was used as a support for silver films with sulfide reaction layers; treatment in a magnetron discharge with aluminum cathode in pure H2 restored the silver to its initial contaminated condition. Ar-H2 mixtures were also used. Silver-coated paper was tested as well. Electron bombardment and thermal damage are described. The application of this study to restoring silver sulfide-coated silver antiquities is discussed. -- AATA
