Abstract
In order to reduce the risks of freeze-drying waterlogged wood with tertiary butanol, studies were done on the use of aqueous solutions of polyethylene glycol (PEG) to determine the effectiveness of the chemical. Morphological changes of wood impregnated with PEG solutions when they are set or frozen are recorded. The first study specifically examined PEG: the reasons for using such a high concentration, and its behavior (setting, contraction, and distribution). The second part of the research discusses the aqueous PEG solutions used for pretreatment in freeze-drying; concentration and freezing behavior and eutectic points.
