Excavation of Colletière à Charavines was begun in 1972; settlements dated as early as the Neolithic. The medieval settlement contained building constructions and many artifacts. The removal of large pieces is described; conservation measures taken at the site are described. Further conservation problems besides selecting which objects to preserve were drying, consolidation, and restoration. The choice of treatments, specifically the use of polyethylene glycol, had to be considered in light of reversibility and the deformation of the material.
