Results of development work with extremely finely ground calcium carbonate in highsolids paper coatings are evaluated. Parameters investigated included total replacement of coating clays, lower binding requirements, and energy savings. The use of 100% calcium carbonate for paper coating requires a new approach in papermaking. -- AATA
