Abstract
A report is given on the efforts of some libraries (US and GB) to initiate the construction of a direct copying machine that avoids damage to the binding as it may happen when tightly bound books with narrow inner margins are pressed face down to the glass plate of ordinary machines. It is necessary to construct face-up copiers with books cradles. The future solution of the problem will possibly come from the laser copier coupled with digital scanning.
