The history of the 19th-century color dealer Michiel Hafkenscheid (1772-1846) is described. Part of the heritage of this Amsterdam businessman is an extensive sample collection of his product assortment, the so-called Hafkenscheid Collection. The Hafkenscheid Collection encompasses some 370 samples of divergent nature, like ores, chemicals, unprepared vegetable and animal dyes, tannins, powdered pigments, gums and resins, abrasives, inert fillers and glues. The contents of the collection is also being set out. The investigation revealed art historical as well as technical, chemical, and socioeconomic data. -- AATA
