Abstract
A brief review on the role of sulfur dioxides emission, acid rain formation and its destructive effects on marble monuments is presented. Results of some authors' laboratory experiments, essentially samples subjected to sulfur dioxide vapors or total immersion in aqueous sulfuric acid solutions, are discussed. -- AATA
