Abstract
The recently formed Maritime Trust has collected À1 500.000 for raising and preserving historic ships. Many ships suitable for preservation, however, are being threatened by the actions of salvage divers. The author also mentions that after ten years of costly spraying of the Vasa's timbers with polyethylene glycol it was found impossible to penetrate the heart-wood. Pretreatment, with a change of carbo-wax concentration and of molecular weight, however, is now understood to bring successful results on the Vasa's large loose timbers.
