Abstract
The composition of elements in the Roman Antoiniani coins minted in the third century BC was determined by non-destructive laser-micro-spectral analysis. Statistical methods were used to evaluate the data arrived at by pattern recognition. Two study classes were set up of the coins from the two mints of the period, Viminacium and Antiochia. These study classes can be readily distinguished by the methods used. Relying on the already known groups, analysis of yet unidentified coins from this period was undertaken. See also AATA 21-490.
