In the Nuclear Research Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the statistical analysis of 1500 tests that had been carried out on almost 1000 archaeological finds provided an opportunity for the drawing of several archaeological conclusions. In the second half of the Avar period, the mountings decorating the waistbelts had been fitted onto them at the same time. By identifying similarities that existed among the groups of finds in the same cemetery, it was possible to point out groups of corpses which had been buried around the same time. Second, by comparing finds originating from different places during the Avar Empire, evidence indicated that instead of one central workshop there must have been several supplying various regions.
