The silk damask flag from Gyor, dating back to the 1848 Hungarian War of Independence, with an oil painting in its center, was found sewn inside a thick, coarse, big-holed net. The first phase of the restoration work was to peel off the net and soften the hard, cracked pieces of the painting. After this was done, the textile part of the flag could be cleaned with an emulsion. Paraloid B 72 was applied to the cracked edges of the painting and supported by silk organdie;the missing parts were replaced with a special filler paste. The assembling of the completed picture and the textile was done by the same method. The missing textile parts of the flag were completed by cotton atlas. See also AATA 20-603 and 21-490.
