Abstract
Authors discuss the use of various silanes to enhance the adhesion and wetting properties of various adhesives and consolidants to glass substrates. Organofunctional silanes used as coupling agents are discussed and chemical structures are described. Reaction mechanisms are explained and supported by infrared spectrum data and critical surface tension values. Experiments in the consolidation of weathering crusts on glass are described and evaluated. Experiments are illustrated with SEM micrographs. See also AATA 9-788 for related study and 21-1334 for reference to entire proceedings.
