Japanese buildings are traditionally restored at regular intervals. An inventory is provided of the historic wooden buildings: ownership, roofing materials, age of buildings, type of building. Various types of deterioration require different levels of repair, the most extensive being complete dismantling and half dismantling. The original construction techniques lend themselves to dismantling the building to repair decayed timber. The organization of the craftsmen who do the repairs, and the decision-making procedure regarding what work is to be done are discussed. For reference to entire proceedings, see AATA 22-201.
