Abstract
An analysis of different kinds of timber dwellings in central Europe, including France, the two Germanys, Austria, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania and Switzerland. Two basic types of structures are distinguished: horizontal timbering and timber framing. Variations in civil, rural and domestic architectures are pointed out.
