Land surveying and photogrammetric methods suitable for the survey documentation of excavations, are described. Emphasis is given to the changing scene of an excavation with respect to the documentation and prospection needs of the scientists involved, i.e., unique expandable grids based on geodetic networks, establishment of photogrammetric archives and production of plans, controlled photomosaics with the aid of simple instruments and fast data sampling procedures. To verify the above, a series of applications and their significance to prospection/documentation of excavations is presented.
