Abstract
The wet site conditions encountered in southern Labrador at the Basque whaling stations are summarized. Specific techniques of excavation and exhumation, which were developed in consultation with Canadian Conservation Institute personnel, are described. Methods to drain water from several pond sites are discussed, noting some of the problems encountered and some of the disadvantages. Mapping the ponds and plotting the artifacts were done on an adaptation of a mechanical alidade.
