Abstract
Settlement problems have occurred at this cathedral ever since the earliest stages of construction in the sixteenth century. A study of subsoil consolidation and masonry deformation has resulted in an innovative response to the problem of differential settlement; selective soil excavation has been utilized to reduce the magnitude of differential movement.
