Abstract
This bibliography covers the literature on the preservation of stone. Three pages of introductory comments mention some of the basic principles of stone deterioration. Agents of decay are generally classed as mechanical, chemical, or inherent defects in construction techniques used on stone. Calcium carbonate rocks are most susceptible to decay, and the bulk of literature on stone preservation thus concerns these rocks. The bibliography represents an attempt to give references for all the recipes or techniques of preservation that have appeared since 1839. An author index follows the listing of abstracts.
