Abstract
Gold alloy ornaments from the site of La Tolita, on the Pacific coast of Ecuador were examined. Different kinds of solder used by the Ecuadorian Indians were analyzed in comparison with the gold alloys used to make the ornaments. Compositions of the solder and objects are plotted on a ternary gold-copper-silver phase diagram and the microstructure of the solders and objects are illustrated.
