Abstract
Mineral extraction is a serious threat to the archaeological record. A code of practice was drafted in an attempt to protect these sites in great britain. It has been found that the code is very rarely applied and it has not diminished the unrecorded destruction of archaeological sites through mineral quarrying. Recommendations are made for a revision of the present code. -- ICCROM
