Abstract
This paper is about the conservation of the various types of works of art on paper which were exported from China to Europe and America in the 18th and 19th centuries: watercolor paintings, wallpapers, and pith paintings. The materials and techniques of these paintings are described briefly and reference is made to their historical context. Reasons for the deterioration of the artifacts are suggested and different approaches to their preservation and practical restoration are outlined. -- AATA
