The systematic demounting and conservation of the collection started in 1984. The fact that the collection is permanently exhibited and the house itself is wide open to the garden gave rise to problems: fading; infiltration of insects from the garden into the frames. Mounting techniques were adapted in an attempt to solve these problems despite the aforementioned parameters. The techniques of conservation involve a compromise between Western and Eastern methods. The topics covered include: safety and effectiveness towards pigments and cellulose; use of bleaching agents for the treatment of foxing; use of fixatives; quality of Japanese papers used for lining in some cases or for the replacement of missing parts; retouching. -- AATA
