Abstract
The technique of broderie perse or Persian embroidery is used in the production and design of quilts based on Oriental rugs. Motifs are cut from printed fabric, especially 18th-century florals, and appliquéd with tiny stitches to a background fabric. A common motif used by Eastern rug weavers is the palmette, where the flower form is in cross section. -- AATA
