A discussion of techniques for archaeotermometry. Methods used for the retrospective estimation of the firing temperatures of ancient ceramics are described and ranked by the authors in order of effectiveness. The techniques discussed include those correlating colour, physical, elastic and electronic properties, thermoluminescence sensitivity, morphology, mineralogy and thermal behaviour with temperature. 24 references.
